Your pump should’nt sound like a lawnmower. If it does, something’s definately wrong inside. Could be the impeller, could be the bearings, could be the motor itself. We carry most parts in the van because nobody wants to wait three days for a pump repair.

Filters are another common headache. Sand filters get clogged, cartridge filters tear, DE filters develop cracks. When your water stays cloudy no matter how much chlorine you dump in, the filter’s probably not doing its job. Pool Leak Detection and Repair

Loosing water is expensive. Your municipal bill goes up, your chemicals get diluted, and if the leak’s bad enough, you damage the surrounding garden. Some leaks are obvious – you can see water pooling somewhere. Others are sneaky. The water just dissapears and you can’t figure out where.

We do pressure testing on all the plumbing lines. Dye testing shows us exactly where water’s escaping. Sometimes it’s a cracked return line under the paving. Sometimes it’s the main drain fitting that’s come loose. Once found a leak in a guy’s pool on Muishond Street that had been there for two years. He thought he just had a “thirsty pool.”

Structural cracks need proper repair, not just slapping some epoxy over them. We drain down to the crack level, grind it out, fill it properly, then recoat. Takes longer but it actually holds.

Pool Resurfacing

Faerie Glen pools age like everything else. Plaster gets rough, stains won’t come out anymore, the surface starts looking grey instead of white. Usually need resurfacing every 7-10 years depending on your water chemistry and how much you use the pool.

Fibreglass pools get chalky, the gel coat wears off, sun damage turns them dull. We strip back to good gelcoat, fix any osmosis blisters, then recoat with new layers. Marbelite pools need complete replastering. It’s messy work but makes your pool look brand new.

Tiles around the waterline crack and fall off. Grout fails. We retile sections or complete pool surrounds. Got good suppliers in Menlyn who stock everything from standard white to fancy glass mosaics.

Why Pools Break Around Here

The weather messes with pools more than people realize. Summer storms dump acid rain that throws pH levels crazy. Winter cold contracts everything – pipes, plaster, equipment. Then summer heat expands it all again. This constant movement creates problems.

Trees are another issue. Jacarandas look beautiful on Delmas Street but their roots go everywhere. Seen them crack pool walls, break pipes, lift paving. Gum trees are even worse. Their roots are like tank tracks underground.

Suction side leaks where air gets into the system. Your pump loses prime, stops pulling water properly. Usually it’s a cracked lid, bad o-ring, or loose fitting somewhere.

Green pools that won’t clear up no matter what chemicals you add. Sometimes it’s the filter, sometimes the chlorinator’s broken, sometimes there’s a dead rat in the skimmer box. Yeah, that happens.

Automatic pool cleaners that stopped working. Kreepy Krauly units are tough but they wear out. Hoses split, gearboxes fail, diaphragms tear. We fix or replace them depending on what makes sense financially.

Salt chlorinators that don’t produce chlorine anymore. The cell’s probably scaled up or died. We clean cells, replace them, recalibrate systems. Salt systems are great when they work but need regular maintanence.

Seasonal Issues to Watch

Summer brings high bather loads. More people in the pool means more contaminants, more chemical demand. Filters work harder. Pumps run longer hours. Equipment failures spike in December and January.

Autumn leaves clog everything. Skimmer baskets, pump baskets, filters. If you don’t keep up with leaf removal, your system suffocates. Seen pumps burn out from running dry when leaves blocked all water flow.

Winter pH drops as water gets cold. Chemical reactions slow down. Algae can still grow even though nobody’s swimming. Frozen pipes aren’t common but we get cold snaps that damage exposed plumbing.

Spring is when everyone realizes their pool looks terrible after winter neglect. Equipment that barely limped through winter finally dies. Call volume triples in September and October.

Emergency Service

Preventative Maintanence Advice

Check your pump basket every week. Takes two minutes and prevents most pump failures. Clear out leaves, debris, whatever’s in there.

Listen to your equipment. Strange noises mean something’s wrong. That grinding, squealing, or rattling isn’t normal. Catch problems early and repairs cost less.

Watch your water level. If you’re adding water more than usual, you’ve got a leak somewhere. Don’t ignore it hoping it’ll fix itself. Leaks get worse, not better.

Test your water chemistry monthly at minimum. Balanced water protects your equipment and surfaces. Wrong pH eats away at everything.
